COURSE CURRICULUM

Theatre students at the University of Manitoba can choose from a variety of courses that offer both practical experience and theoretical knowledge. Introductory courses such as THTR 1220: Introduction to Theatre provide a broad foundation in theatre arts and carry six credit hours. For hands-on learning, students can take THTR 2150: Theatrical Techniques: Onstage and THTR 2160: Theatrical Techniques: Backstage, both six credit hour courses focused on developing skills in acting and technical theatre, respectively. Critical and historical perspectives are covered in courses like THTR 2470: Fundamentals of Dramatic Analysis and THTR 2480: Theatre History, each offering three credit hours. The program also emphasizes inclusivity and contemporary issues through THTR 2600: Theatre and Diversity. Advanced courses such as THTR 3460: Theory of Drama and Performance and THTR 3470: Text and Performance provide deeper theoretical and analytical training for students interested in dramaturgy and performance studies. Students can gain practical experience through THTR 3630: Practicum 1, which includes a partnership with the Prairie Theatre Exchange, giving real-world exposure in a professional theatre setting.
