COURSE CURRICULUM

The Labour Studies program offers a variety of courses that explore the complex relationships between workers, employers, and the state. Students begin with foundational courses like Working for a Living and Introduction to the Canadian Labour Movement, which provide a historical and social overview of labour issues. They then delve deeper into topics such as The Political Economy of Labour, examining the economic forces shaping work and employment. Courses like Labour Law and Employment Legislation and the Protection of Workers focus on the legal frameworks that govern workplace rights and responsibilities. Students also study Issues in Occupational Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation, which address the crucial aspects of workplace safety and worker protection. Labour and Community Organizing highlights strategies for collective action and social change, while Human Rights at Work and Racism and Work explore equity, diversity, and the challenges faced by marginalized groups in the labour market. Through this diverse curriculum, students gain a comprehensive understanding of labour relations, workers’ rights, and social justice. These courses equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to advocate for fair and safe working conditions, engage in community organizing, and influence labour policies, preparing them for careers in labour relations, advocacy, and related fields.
