COURSE CURRICULUM

The History (BA) program offers a diverse range of courses that allow students to explore the complexities of the past across different periods, regions, and themes. Students begin with foundational courses like HIST 1200: An Introduction to the History of Western Civilization, which offers a broad overview of major developments in the Western world. HIST 2010: Indigenous History in Canada provides an essential understanding of Indigenous experiences and perspectives. Specialized topics include HIST 2670: History of Capitalism, which examines the evolution of economic systems, and HIST 3574: Disease and Society in the Modern World, which explores the impact of epidemics on societies. HIST 3760: Food Histories, which includes a cooking lab, connects food culture with historical narratives. Regional studies are represented by HIST 3990: Comparative Urban Modernities of Africa and the Middle East and HIST 3740: Revolutions in Latin America, providing insights into global urbanization and political movements. HIST 4000: Getting Graphic with the Past examines how comics and graphic novels interpret and represent history. These offerings encourage students to critically analyze historical sources, challenge established narratives, and engage with the past in creative and interdisciplinary ways, preparing them for careers in education, policy, public service, and more.
