COURSE CURRICULUM

The Art History (BA) program offers a variety of courses that cover a wide range of periods, styles, and themes in visual arts. Foundational courses such as FAAH 1030: Introduction to Art 1A introduce students to basic concepts and methods in art history, laying the groundwork for further study. Courses like CLAS 2670: Greek Art and Archaeology and CLAS 2680: Roman Arts and Archaeology explore classical art and its cultural contexts, helping students understand the roots of Western artistic traditions. FAAH 3140: Topics in Renaissance and Baroque Art and Architecture delves into the rich artistic achievements of these influential periods. Contemporary perspectives are addressed in FAAH 3202: Contemporary Art History, which examines modern and emerging media, and FAAH 4090: Seminar on Contemporary Issues in Art, focusing on current debates and themes. The program also offers FAAH 3212: Introduction to the Theory of Art, where students study key ideas and frameworks used to analyze art. FAAH 3260: Canadian Art and Architecture to World War 2 highlights the development of Canadian visual culture, while FAAH 3930: Introduction to Curatorial Studies prepares students for roles in museum and gallery work. These courses provide students with critical skills to analyze, interpret, and engage with art across time and cultures.
