COURSE CURRICULUM

The program consists of two main components completed over two years: coursework in the first year and a thesis project in the second year. In the first year, students must complete at least five courses. During the fall semester, required courses include ECON 5010 (Microeconomic Theory), ECON 5012 (Macroeconomic Theory), and ECON 5960 (Econometric Theory and Applications). In the spring semester, students must take a minimum of two 5000-level courses, with at least one being an ECON course. Course descriptions and scheduling information are available through the University of Lethbridge course catalogue and the Registrar’s Office dynamic schedule. The second component of the program is the thesis project, which spans the second year. Students are required to select a supervisor by the end of the first semester, after which a supervisory committee is formed. An initial thesis proposal must be submitted for approval by this committee, followed by a final thesis proposal due by the end of the third semester (summer). Students are encouraged to align their thesis topic with areas where they have gained applied research experience during their first year. Faculty-student seminars within the department support thesis development by encouraging idea exchange and providing opportunities for students to present and refine their research throughout the program.
