COURSE CURRICULUM

Psychology is the scientific study of behaviour and mental processes, focusing on how humans and animals think, feel, and act. The program begins with foundational courses that introduce psychology as both a natural and social science, covering topics such as cognition, perception, brain function, development, social behaviour, and abnormal psychology. Students also build essential academic skills in research methods, scientific writing, and statistical analysis to interpret psychological data accurately. As the program progresses, learners explore specialized areas including learning and memory, personality, cultural psychology, language, sensation and perception, and behavioural neuroscience. Advanced courses examine real-world applications such as forensic psychology, criminal behaviour, mental health, addiction, and developmental disorders. Students also study how biological, evolutionary, and social factors shape behaviour across the lifespan, gaining a deeper understanding of both typical and atypical development. Research methods and statistics remain central throughout, preparing students to critically evaluate evidence and conduct their own studies. Upper-level seminars allow for focused exploration of topics like social cognition, decision-making, and environmental influences on behaviour. Many courses emphasize hands-on learning, data analysis, and research participation. In the final stages, students may complete a capstone experience or undergraduate thesis, conducting independent research under faculty supervision.
