COURSE CURRICULUM

The Digital Audio Arts program includes a structured sequence of courses that combine music theory, technology, production, and creative practice. Students begin with foundational courses such as Introduction to Music, Materials of Music, Foundations of Music Theory, and Aural Skills I & II, which develop listening skills, notation knowledge, rhythm, harmony, and basic musicianship. Courses like Music Studies: Histories and Issues and Ideas introduce historical, cultural, and critical perspectives on music. Writing About Music builds academic and professional communication skills in music-related contexts. In the technology stream, students study Introduction to Music Technology, Introduction to Digital Audio, Modern Studio Recording Techniques, Technical Ear Training, and Audio Electronics, which develop core skills in recording, mixing, sound analysis, and studio practice. Advanced technical courses include Digital Signal Processing, Synthesis and Computer-Based Music Production, Interactive Music Performance and Production, and Nonlinear Music and Audio for Games, focusing on modern audio systems and interactive media. Production-focused courses such as Music Production, Traditional Studio Recording Techniques, Location Recording and Production, Immersive Audio, and Music Design for Film and Digital Media provide hands-on experience in professional audio environments. Creative development is supported through Composition I & II, Orchestration, Form and Analysis, and Genre Studies. Industry and research preparation comes from Portfolio and Music Industry, Applied Research in Digital Audio Arts I & II, and Music Education Technologies. Overall, the curriculum integrates theory, technology, and creative production for careers in music and audio industries.
