COURSE CURRICULUM

The Public Health program focuses on improving the health and well-being of entire populations through prevention, health promotion, and evidence-based practice. It begins with foundational courses such as Introduction to Public Health, where students explore health as a multidimensional concept shaped by social, cultural, economic, environmental, and historical factors. As the program progresses, students study population health, health policy, environmental health, and public health ethics, gaining an understanding of how laws, systems, and community conditions influence health outcomes. A strong emphasis is placed on determinants of health, including poverty, inequality, and access to resources, as well as the unique health challenges faced by Indigenous and global communities. Students also develop applied skills in epidemiology, learning how to study patterns of disease, design research, and interpret health data. Advanced courses focus on infectious disease control, outbreak management, and the application of epidemiological methods to real-world public health problems. Throughout the program, students integrate theory with practice, building skills in critical thinking, research, and program planning. A key component is the practicum experience, where students work directly with organizations or communities to apply public health strategies in real settings. This hands-on training prepares graduates to address pressing health issues such as chronic disease prevention, pandemics, and environmental risks. Overall, the program equips students to contribute meaningfully to public health practice, policy development, and community well-being at both national and global levels.
