COURSE CURRICULUM

Indigenous Art (Art History/Museum Studies) program draw from multiple disciplines, including Art History, Museum Studies, Indigenous Studies, and studio-based Art courses, allowing students to develop both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Art History courses such as Indigenous Art in Canada or Global Indigenous Visual Culture explore historical and contemporary Indigenous artistic traditions, analyzing themes of identity, colonization, resistance, and cultural expression through visual media. Museum Studies courses focus on the practical aspects of working in cultural institutions, including collections management, conservation, exhibition design, and curatorial practices. These classes often provide hands-on experience with artifacts and gallery preparation, helping students understand how museums operate. Indigenous Studies courses examine Indigenous histories, knowledge systems, worldviews, and cultural practices, offering critical perspectives on colonial histories and contemporary Indigenous issues. Art courses introduce students to creative practice, allowing them to engage with visual production, media techniques, and artistic experimentation.
