COURSE CURRICULUM

Indigenous Governance and Business Management (IGBM) program are designed to build both foundational knowledge and advanced leadership skills related to Indigenous governance, business systems, and community development. Students typically begin with IGBM 2500: Introduction to Indigenous Governance and Business Management, which provides an overview of Indigenous political structures, economic development, and the integration of business principles with Indigenous worldviews. As they progress, courses such as IGBM 3515: Canadian Indigenous Negotiations focus on developing practical negotiation skills used in government, industry, and community settings, with emphasis on land claims, resource agreements, and intergovernmental relations. IGBM 3522: Canadian Indigenous Project Management trains students in planning, implementing, and evaluating projects within Indigenous communities and organizations, emphasizing accountability and cultural awareness. At an advanced level, IGBM 4501: Canadian Indigenous Tax Issues explores taxation systems affecting Indigenous governments and businesses, including policy and financial implications. IGBM 4570: Indigenous Leadership and Management develops leadership competencies, organizational strategy, and decision-making skills needed for managerial roles in both Indigenous and non-Indigenous contexts. Together, these sample courses combine theory and applied learning, preparing students for careers in administration, governance, business, and leadership roles that support Indigenous economic and social development.
