COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sociology program includes a range of courses designed to help students understand how societies are structured, how social behaviour is shaped, and how social change occurs. Foundational courses such as Classical Sociological Theory introduce students to early thinkers and key ideas that shaped the discipline, while Contemporary Sociological Theory builds on these foundations by examining modern perspectives on society, power, and social organization. Methodological training is an important part of the program, with courses like Research Methodology and Quantitative Research Methods teaching students how to design studies, collect data, and analyze social patterns using both qualitative and statistical approaches. Students also explore applied and issue-based topics such as Social Inequality, which examines disparities related to class, race, gender, and other social categories, and Social Problems, which focuses on understanding and addressing real-world social challenges. Courses like Deviance, Conformity & Social Control investigate how societies define and regulate behaviour, including what is considered acceptable or unacceptable within different cultural and institutional contexts. Together, these courses provide students with a strong foundation in sociological theory and research skills while also encouraging critical thinking about contemporary social issues.
