COURSE CURRICULUM

The Political Science program offers a range of courses designed to help students understand how governments operate, how political decisions are made, and how political behaviour shapes societies. Students often begin with Introduction to Political Theory, which explores foundational ideas about justice, power, democracy, and the role of the state in society. International Relations examines how countries interact with one another, focusing on topics such as diplomacy, conflict, global cooperation, and international organizations. Public Administration introduces the structure and functioning of government institutions, including how public policies are developed, implemented, and evaluated. Canadian Political Behaviour studies how citizens engage with politics, including voting patterns, political attitudes, and public opinion. The Politics of Canadian Federalism focuses on the distribution of power between federal and provincial governments and how this division shapes policy-making in Canada. The Politics of Canadian Trade Policy explores how economic decisions are made and how Canada participates in global trade systems. The Government & Politics of the United States provides a comparative perspective by examining the political system, institutions, and processes of one of Canada’s key international partners. Together, these courses give students a broad and detailed understanding of political systems at both national and global levels, preparing them for careers or further study in politics, law, public service, and international affairs.
