COURSE CURRICULUM

Modern Languages & Linguistics program are designed to develop strong language proficiency while also building cultural and literary understanding. Culture and Civilization I introduces students to the history, traditions, and social structures of French-speaking or other target-language communities, helping them understand how culture shapes communication. French Immersion courses focus on developing fluency through active speaking, listening, reading, and writing practice entirely in French. Introduction to Modern Literature and Literary Analysis teaches students how to interpret texts, identify themes, and understand literary techniques within cultural contexts. Communication écrite et orale emphasizes both written and spoken communication skills, improving grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and expression in real-life situations. Advanced Language I builds higher-level fluency and accuracy, allowing students to engage in more complex discussions and writing tasks. Survey of French or French-Canadian Literature provides an overview of major literary works, authors, and movements, helping students understand the evolution of literature in francophone cultures. Literary Genres courses explore different forms of writing such as poetry, drama, and prose, focusing on structure and meaning. Together, these courses help students achieve strong language proficiency while gaining deep cultural insight, preparing them for careers in education, translation, international communication, and global cultural engagement.
