COURSE CURRICULUM

Agricultural Studies at the University of Lethbridge includes a structured progression of courses that combine agriculture, economics, environmental science, and quantitative analysis to understand modern agricultural systems. The program begins with Agricultural Studies 1000, which explores the evolution of agriculture from its origins to the present, highlighting global food issues, environmental impacts, and the roles of Indigenous peoples and women in agriculture. As students advance, Agricultural Studies 3300 introduces modelling of agricultural systems using economic, biological, social, and ecological components, along with quantitative tools such as linear programming and computer-based analysis for farm management. Agricultural Studies 4000 serves as a seminar course that examines key agricultural issues through guest lectures, readings, field trips, and research-based discussions, helping students develop critical thinking and communication skills. At a more advanced level, Agricultural Studies 4300 focuses on complex optimization and decision-making methods in agriculture, including dynamic programming, simulation, and advanced modelling techniques applied to real-world agricultural problems.
