COURSE CURRICULUM

The Data Analysis Certificate (DAC) at UFV is a flexible, intensive program designed to be completed in as little as 10 to 14 months, depending on the student’s prior coursework. The program consists of 11 courses totaling 34 or 35 credits. Students without prior programming or statistics experience typically begin in May and complete the certificate by the following June, while those entering with credits for COMP 120, 150, 152, or 155 and either STAT 106 or MATH/STAT 270 may start in September and finish in about 10 months. The curriculum blends computing and statistical skills essential for data-driven roles across industries. Core courses include database systems, machine learning or data mining, statistical modeling, data quality, regression analysis, and data visualization. Students choose three electives from a robust list, such as survey sampling, design of experiments, time series analysis, project management, advanced databases, and artificial intelligence. The program emphasizes both theoretical understanding and practical application, preparing students to clean, manipulate, analyze, and extract insights from large datasets. Graduates will be equipped to support business intelligence, scientific research, and policy-making through evidence-based decision-making and are well-prepared for roles such as data analysts, research analysts, or data specialists in a variety of sectors.
