COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computer Information Systems (CIS) diploma at UFV offers a comprehensive, two-year curriculum that combines technical training with communication and analytical skills to prepare students for careers in the IT industry. In the first year, students are introduced to web publishing, systems hardware concepts, and the principles of computing, along with foundational courses in programming, discrete mathematics, and communication or academic writing. They also complete electives in arts or approved subjects to round out their education. The second year builds on this foundation with more advanced coursework in networking theory, object-oriented programming, and information systems security. Students also learn professional report writing and choose from CIS or COMP 200-level electives to tailor the program to their interests. In the final semester, the focus shifts to practical applications, with courses in end-user training, systems analysis and design, databases, and data structures. A business or communications elective further enhances students' readiness for real-world environments. This well-rounded structure ensures graduates are equipped with both the technical expertise and soft skills needed to succeed in roles such as network support, programming, systems analysis, or IT consulting. The diploma also serves as a stepping stone to further education, including UFV’s Bachelor of Computer Information Systems degree.
