COURSE CURRICULUM

The Accounting certificate program at UFV consists of a total of 30–31 credits and is structured to provide a strong foundation in key areas of accounting and business. Students begin with six core courses: Introduction to Business, Introductory Financial Accounting (or BUS 143 and BUS 144 as an alternative), Computerized Business Applications and MIS, Introductory Management Accounting, Introduction to Finance, and Principles of Microeconomics. These courses establish essential knowledge in financial processes, management, and economic principles. In addition to the core curriculum, students are required to complete one lower-level elective and three upper-level electives from a designated list. Lower-level elective options include Business Law, Introduction to Professional Communication, or introductory statistics courses (STAT 104 or STAT 106). Upper-level electives allow students to tailor their studies to their career goals and may include courses such as Intermediate and Advanced Accounting, Income Tax, Auditing, Financial Management, and Advanced Management Accounting. This elective structure enables students to focus on specific areas within the accounting profession that align with their intended career path or further education. The program is typically completed in 1.5 years of full-time study and is ideal for those pursuing entry-level positions or planning to continue toward a professional accounting designation.
