COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program at UFV offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary for effective social work practice. Core courses include Social Work Practice with Individuals, Social Work Theory and Ethics, Legal Knowledge for Social Work Practice, and Anti-Racist and Cross-Cultural Social Work, providing a solid foundation in both practical skills and critical perspectives. The program emphasizes hands-on learning through two practicums—BSW Practicum I and II—totaling 15 credits, where students gain real-world experience working with diverse populations. Additional courses such as Social Work and Community Development, Indigenous Social Work, Research Methods and Evaluation, and Social Policy Analysis deepen understanding of community dynamics, Indigenous issues, research, and policy frameworks. Students choose one course focused on practice with groups or families and select four electives from options including Substance Misuse Issues, Legal Skills, Social Work in Health Care, Feminist Social Work, Mental Health, and more, allowing for specialization aligned with their interests. The program also includes interdisciplinary collaborative practice and special topics courses, fostering a broad and inclusive perspective. Altogether, the BSW program prepares students to work competently and ethically in varied social work settings, promoting social justice and meaningful community impact.
