COURSE CURRICULUM

Computing Science major within the Bachelor of Science program at UFV, students must complete key prerequisites including COMP 125, COMP 150 with a minimum grade of C+, MATH 111 with at least a C, and MATH 125. The program requires 43 lower-level credits, covering foundational courses such as principles of computing, programming (including object-oriented), data structures and algorithms, databases, machine architecture, calculus, discrete mathematics, linear algebra, and probability and statistics. Upper-level requirements include 36 to 38 credits featuring core courses like operating systems, software engineering, artificial intelligence, languages and computation, design and analysis of algorithms, and computers and society. Students must also complete four additional courses across three concentration areas—Systems and Security, Artificial Intelligence and Data Mining, and Programming Languages and Software—with at least one course from each, plus a COMP 440 project focused on their chosen concentration. Concentration courses range from topics such as network security, machine learning, data mining, to advanced programming and software design. Additionally, two extra upper-level COMP courses are required unless the student is pursuing a Mathematics or Physics major, in which case this requirement is waived. This comprehensive curriculum ensures students develop strong theoretical knowledge and practical skills tailored to their interests within computing science.
