COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Media Arts at the University of the Fraser Valley requires the completion of 120 university-level credits, including at least 30 credits completed at UFV and a minimum of 45 upper-level credits, with 24 of those also completed at UFV. The program includes 49 core credits designed to provide students with a strong foundation in digital media theory and practice. Lower-level core requirements (30 credits) include courses such as MACS 130 (Introduction to Digital Media and Communications), MEDA 100 (Introduction to Media Arts), MEDA 110 (Digital Imaging), MEDA 210 (Digital Concept Art), MEDA 260 (Exploring Creativity), and THEA 205 (Performance Studies). Students also complete courses in drawing, communication, and storytelling, with options such as CMNS 125 or ENGL 105 for writing, and electives like ENGL 104, CMNS 175, or various creative writing courses. Upper-level core requirements (17 credits) include MEDA 350 (Critical Studies in Digital Media), MEDA 360 (Professional Practices), MEDA 403 (Media Arts Integrated Project), and SOCA 401 (Critical Theory for Creative Arts). Additional elective credits are needed to reach the 120-credit total. The program emphasizes interdisciplinary learning, professional development, and critical engagement with digital media, preparing students for careers in creative industries.
