COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Kinesiology program at the University of the Fraser Valley includes 49 core credits covering foundational and advanced topics in health, movement, and exercise science. Core courses include human anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, nutrition, sport psychology, motor learning, research methods, and applied ethics. Students also complete either a thesis or a professional experience placement. Depending on their career goals, students select one of three specializations. The Active Health specialization (18–19 credits) focuses on careers in community health, fitness, athletic therapy, and recreation, and includes courses such as health programming, counselling skills, adapted physical activity, and electives like chronic disease, athletic injuries, or advanced clinical therapy. The Exercise Science specialization (21–22 credits) prepares students for roles as kinesiologists or for entry into professional schools and includes biology, lab-based physiology, advanced exercise testing, and options like pathophysiology or nutrition science. The Pedagogy specialization (19–20 credits) is tailored for students pursuing teaching, coaching, or graduate studies and includes courses in instructional design, team sports, measurement and evaluation, health promotion, and specialized teaching areas such as dance, fitness, or outdoor leadership. Each specialization is designed to provide students with both theoretical knowledge and applied skills aligned with their professional or academic aspirations.
