COURSE CURRICULUM

The theatre program requires a total of 36 credits, divided into lower-level and upper-level coursework. For the lower-level requirements, students must complete 21 credits, including core courses such as THEA 101 (Experiencing Theatre and Performance), THEA 112 (Acting Fundamentals), and one technical theatre course chosen from THEA 121 (Technical Theatre I) or THEA 123 (Technical Theatre II). Additionally, students must take THEA 199 (Introduction to Technical Production) or THEA 299 (Theatre Production Practicum), and THEA 205 (Performance Studies). To complete the lower-level credits, two additional lower-level THEA courses totaling 6 credits are required. It is important to note that students can only count up to three practicum credits from THEA 290 or THEA 295 toward elective credits in any UFV degree program, including the BA or BFA. Students are also advised to select lower-level courses that serve as prerequisites for their desired upper-level courses. The upper-level requirements consist of 15 credits, starting with THEA 304 (Applied Theatre), followed by one course from a selection including THEA 303 (Gender and Performance), THEA 307 (Intercultural Theatre and Performance), or THEA 360 (Special Topics in Performance Studies). Another course must be chosen from options such as THEA 311 (Digital Performance and Storytelling), THEA 312 (Advanced Approaches to Acting), THEA 316 (Special Topics in Performance Practice), THEA 370 (Scenography), or THEA 399 (Intermediate Practicum in Theatre). Finally, students must complete two additional 300- or 400-level THEA courses to fulfill the upper-level credit requirement.
