COURSE CURRICULUM

The Media and Communication Studies minor at UFV requires 18 lower-level credits and 15–16 upper-level credits. At the lower level, students take foundational courses such as MACS 110 (Introduction to Communication Studies), MACS 130 (Introduction to Digital Media and Communications), and MACS 255/SOC 255 (Introduction to Social Research). In addition, students complete six credits from other lower-level MACS courses, plus one elective from options including CMNS 180 (Introduction to Intercultural Communication), ENGL 208 (Creative Writing: Screenwriting), or FILM 110 (Introduction to Film Studies). At the upper level, students complete eight credits of advanced MACS courses along with seven to eight credits from a broader selection of upper-level courses. These options include specialized topics like Visual Anthropology (ANTH 401), Arts in Context (AH 316), Public Relations Campaigns (CMNS 312), Multimedia Journalism (CMNS 301), Documentary Video Storytelling (FILM 365/JRNL 365/VA 365), and Creative Writing: Advanced Screenwriting (ENGL 378), among others. This structure allows students to deepen their understanding of media and communication while exploring interdisciplinary connections across social sciences, arts, and humanities, equipping them with diverse analytical and practical skills relevant to contemporary media landscapes.
