The University of the Fraser Valley’s four-year Bachelor of Environmental Studies (BES) program prepares students to influence business, industry, and government through environmentally and economically sound practices. This integrated, interdisciplinary program connects fields such as environmental studies, art, natural sciences, and communications, providing a well-rounded perspective on sustainability challenges. With a strong regional focus, the program addresses critical issues facing the Fraser Valley, including agriculture and food security, climate change, land use planning with GIS technology, and environmental communications.The curriculum centers on core courses that explore human-environment relationships, resource management, innovation, environmental research, and the communication of complex ideas. Instruction is delivered through a combination of online and in-person formats, utilizing lectures, seminars, fieldwork, and technology-supported learning environments to engage students in diverse ways.A key component of the program is its emphasis on practical, real-world experience. Students fulfill this requirement through either a practicum or participation in the cooperative education program, allowing them to apply their academic knowledge in professional settings. This hands-on experience enhances technical skills and builds qualifications that prepare graduates for immediate employment in environmental careers.Upon completing the BES degree, graduates are ready to work as environmental professionals both in Canada and internationally, or to pursue graduate studies or other professional designations.
