COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor in Computer Information Systems (CIS) program at the University of the Fraser Valley equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to become effective managers in the information technology (IT) field. Combining theoretical understanding with hands-on learning in well-equipped labs, the program ensures graduates are versatile digital problem-solvers prepared to meet the demands of today’s technology-driven workplaces. During the first two years, students focus on foundational courses that provide a broad base in computing principles, preparing them to support both standalone and networked systems. This early coursework builds essential analytical and technical skills, setting the stage for more advanced learning.In the third and fourth years, students deepen their technical expertise while also acquiring crucial business management skills. This unique combination prepares graduates not only to handle complex IT challenges but also to take on leadership and managerial roles within organizations. To further customize their education and sharpen their competencies, students may choose to specialize in one of three concentrations: Software Development, Systems and Networking, or Security. Each concentration offers focused coursework designed to develop expertise in key areas of IT, whether creating software solutions, managing network infrastructures, or protecting information systems from cyber threats.By integrating technical knowledge with management training, the CIS program prepares students for a wide range of career paths, from IT project management to network administration and cybersecurity leadership.
