COURSE CURRICULUM

The Peace and Conflict Studies program requires 18 lower-level credits, including foundational courses like PACS 100 (Introduction to Peace and Conflict Studies), PACS 200 (Conflict Analysis and Peacebuilding in the Fraser Valley), and either PACS 201 (Equity-Based Dialogue and Engagement) or PACS 202 (Introduction to Mediating Conflict). Students also take courses in social justice, intercultural communication, ethics, politics, and global development, selecting from a wide range of options such as SJGS 100, CMNS 180, PHIL 110, and SOC 270, to build a broad understanding of conflict and peacebuilding themes. At the upper level, students complete 30 credits, with 15 credits in foundational courses like PACS 300 (Religion, Violence, and Peacebuilding), PACS 310 (Conflict Transformation), and PACS 400 (Conflict Analysis and Peacebuilding Seminar), plus electives. Electives include diverse options related to national and international conflict analysis, such as CRIM 400 (Terrorism), HIST 335 (History of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict), and POSC 365 (War, Terrorism, and Global Security), alongside peacebuilding and sustainability courses like CRIM 335 (Justice and Human Rights) and ENV 310 (Leadership in Environmental Professions). This structure ensures students gain comprehensive theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing them to engage thoughtfully and effectively in peacebuilding and conflict transformation at local, national, and global levels.
