COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mathematics program at UFV requires students to complete 27 to 28 lower-level credits and 15 upper-level credits. At the lower level, foundational courses include Calculus I (MATH 111, 4 credits), Calculus II (MATH 112 or MATH 118 for Life Sciences, 4 credits), and Calculus III (MATH 211, 3 credits). Linear Algebra (MATH 221, 3 credits) and discrete mathematics topics (MATH 225, 3 credits) or Ordinary Differential Equations (MATH 255/ENGR 255, 3 credits) provide students with essential mathematical tools. Students also take Transition to Advanced Mathematics (MATH 265, 3 credits) to prepare for upper-level study, along with Introduction to Probability and Statistics (MATH 270/STAT 270, 4 credits). Additionally, students must choose one programming course from Computing for the Sciences (COMP 120), Introduction to Programming (COMP 150), or Introduction to Structured Programming (COMP 152), totaling 3 to 4 credits. At the upper level, students are required to complete 15 credits, including nine credits of advanced mathematics courses and six credits of upper-level mathematics or statistics courses. This structure ensures a strong theoretical foundation, while also offering flexibility to explore applied and statistical areas, preparing students for diverse careers or further graduate studies in mathematics, science, engineering, or data analysis.
