COURSE CURRICULUM

ntroductory courses like ENG 104 (Introduction to Creative Writing), ENG 105 (Academic Writing), and ENG 108 (Introduction to Literature: Words & Worlds) are offered each term, providing foundational skills. At the 200-level, students can explore British literature from various periods, creative writing in genres such as screenwriting and short fiction, rhetoric, and Indigenous literature, with some courses offered only in specific terms. The 300-level classes delve deeper into specialized areas including Greek epic and drama, advanced creative writing, medieval literature, Shakespeare, Romanticism, modernism, and Canadian and American literary traditions. Notably, creative writing options at this level include novel writing, advanced poetry, and children’s literature. Courses also cover performance history, rhetoric, and topics in popular fiction and contemporary studies. While 400-level seminars and directed studies are available on request, they focus on advanced research and specialized creative writing. This broad and flexible course offering enables students to tailor their education to their passions in literature, creative writing, drama, and rhetoric, while also preparing for advanced study or careers in related fields.
