COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice at UFV requires a total of 118-120 credits, divided into core, breadth, and elective courses. The core includes 51 credits covering foundational and advanced topics such as Introduction to Criminology, Canadian Law, Research Methods, Criminal Law, and Professional Practice. Students also explore diverse areas like Diversity in Crime, Hate Crimes, Victimology, and Comparative Criminal Justice Systems, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the field. The breadth requirements, totaling 33-35 credits, include essential communication skills through courses like Professional Communication or Academic Writing, as well as studies in economics, politics, psychology, and sociology to broaden students’ perspectives. Additionally, Indigenous studies and public speaking options emphasize cultural awareness and effective communication. Critical thinking, ethics, statistics, and practicum or internship experiences are also integrated to develop analytical and practical skills. Finally, students must complete arts electives in humanities or social sciences (excluding criminology) and science electives in biology, chemistry, physics, or environmental sciences, providing a well-rounded academic foundation. This combination equips students with theoretical knowledge, research capabilities, and real-world experience, preparing them for diverse careers or advanced studies in criminal justice and related fields.
