COURSE CURRICULUM

Creative Writing and English courses at UFV offer a broad range of opportunities across multiple levels. At the 100-level, foundational courses like Introduction to Creative Writing (ENG 104), Academic Writing (ENG 105), and Introduction to Literature (ENG 108) are available each term, alongside topics in literature and writing fundamentals. The 200-level includes genre-specific creative writing courses such as Screenwriting (ENG 208), Playwriting (ENG 211), Short Fiction (ENG 212), Poetry (ENG 213), and Creative Non-Fiction (ENG 215), with many offered primarily in Fall or Winter terms. Literature courses span British, Canadian, Indigenous, and South Asian topics, covering historical periods from medieval to contemporary times. The 300-level courses deepen specialization with advanced creative writing workshops in short fiction, novel writing, poetry, and screenwriting, alongside thematic literature classes such as British Romanticism, Modernism, and American Literature. Select courses focus on rhetoric, performance history, and storytelling in Indigenous and global communities. Some seminars and special topics provide chances for directed studies and in-depth exploration of specific areas. This diverse course offering supports students in building strong writing skills, literary knowledge, and creative expression across various genres and historical contexts, preparing them for both academic and professional success.
