COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts program at the University of the Fraser Valley offers a flexible and engaging academic path that empowers students to discover their interests while developing essential skills for today’s workforce. Throughout the degree, students gain valuable competencies in writing, communication, critical thinking, research, and problem-solving—skills that are widely applicable across professional fields and graduate studies. With a broad range of disciplines to explore, the program encourages students to build a well-rounded education tailored to their unique goals.In the first and second years, students complete core requirements while choosing from a wide selection of electives that allow them to explore different areas of interest. During this time, students also begin creating an ePortfolio—a digital tool that documents their academic development, skill acquisition, and accomplishments. This portfolio becomes a valuable resource for future job interviews, résumés, and graduate school applications.After completing 30 credits, typically by the end of the second year, students declare a major in an Arts discipline and may choose to add an extended minor, minor, or even a second major. While one Arts major is required, additional specializations can be selected from either Arts or non-Arts areas, giving students the flexibility to personalize their degree. Disciplines available for specialization include English, Psychology, History, Geography, Creative Writing, Political Science, Sociology, Philosophy, Communications, and many more. Honours options are also available in selected fields such as English, Creative Writing, Mathematics, and Philosophy.No matter the combination of major, minor, or extended minor chosen, the UFV Bachelor of Arts prepares graduates to be adaptable, thoughtful, and well-prepared for an ever-changing job market. Whether pursuing a career immediately after graduation or continuing to advanced studies, students leave the program with the knowledge and experience needed to succeed in a wide range of opportunities.
