COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Aging Studies at Trent University is a graduate program designed to provide advanced academic and applied training in the study of aging, older adults, and related social systems. The program takes an interdisciplinary approach, combining perspectives from social sciences, humanities, policy studies, and community-based research to explore the complex realities of aging. Students are required to complete 1.0 credit from AGNG 5000H and AGNG 5003H, which introduce foundational theories, research methods, and critical perspectives in aging studies. In addition, students must complete 1.0 credit from either AGNG 5001Y or AGNG 5002Y, which further develop their understanding of aging through advanced coursework or research-oriented study. A central component of the program is the thesis project, which involves conducting original, independent research under faculty supervision on a topic related to aging. This allows students to contribute new knowledge to the field while strengthening their analytical and research skills. Students also complete 1.0 elective credit from approved AGNG graduate courses, enabling specialization in areas aligned with their academic or professional interests. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in aging services, policy development, healthcare support, research, and community organizations, while also providing a strong foundation for doctoral-level study in aging and related disciplines.
