COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Applied Modelling and Quantitative Methods (AMOD) at Trent University is a research-oriented interdisciplinary graduate program that focuses on the application of computational, statistical, and mathematical modelling techniques to solve complex problems across the natural and social sciences. The program is designed to foster collaboration among students from diverse academic backgrounds, including Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Geography, Psychology, Physics & Astronomy, Mathematics, and Business Administration, enabling them to apply quantitative methods in their respective fields. Students are required to complete 0.5 credit from AMOD 5220H, AMOD 5230H, or AMOD 5240H, which provide advanced instruction in specialized modelling approaches. In addition, they complete 1.0 credit from AMOD 5901H and AMOD 5902H, which focus on research seminars, methodological training, and preparation for thesis work. A central requirement of the program is the thesis project, which involves conducting independent, original research under faculty supervision, applying modelling techniques to discipline-specific or interdisciplinary problems. Students also complete 1.5 elective credits from approved AMOD graduate courses, allowing them to further specialize or broaden their expertise in quantitative methods. Overall, the program prepares graduates for doctoral studies and professional careers in data-driven fields, research, analytics, policy development, and scientific modelling by emphasizing advanced analytical thinking, computational skills, and interdisciplinary research collaboration.
