COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science Honours program in Water Sciences at Trent University is a 20.0-credit interdisciplinary degree focused on the scientific study of freshwater systems and aquatic environments. The program includes 15.5 credits in core and supporting disciplines, combining water sciences with biology, chemistry, geography, environmental science, and mathematics to provide a strong scientific foundation. Students complete 2.0 credits in Water Sciences (WASC) through courses such as WASC 2120H, 2530H, 3530H, and 4060H, which focus on aquatic systems and water-related research. Biology contributes 2.5 credits, covering topics from introductory to advanced levels, while Chemistry provides 1.5 credits in fundamental and applied chemical sciences. Environmental and Earth system understanding is developed through 2.5 ERSC credits and 2.0 Geography credits, ensuring a multidisciplinary perspective on water systems. Students also complete 1.0 Mathematics credit to support quantitative and analytical skills. The program includes additional flexibility through 1.0 credit selected from a range of science-related courses, as well as 2.0 credits and 1.0 advanced credit chosen from approved upper-level electives across related disciplines, allowing specialization in areas of interest such as aquatic ecology, climate, or environmental chemistry. In addition, students must meet university-wide degree requirements, including completion of 0.5 credit from the Approved Indigenous Course List, ensuring both scientific expertise and broader academic development.
