COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science Honours program in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems at Trent University is a 20.0-credit interdisciplinary degree that combines agricultural studies with strong scientific training. The program includes 13.0 credits in core and related subject areas, with a focus on Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems (SAFS), Environmental and Resource Studies, Geography, and Biology. Students complete 2.5 SAFS credits through foundational courses such as SAFS 1001H, 1002H, 2350H, 2500H, and 4001H, along with additional specialized SAFS credits selected from advanced course options and higher-level study, including at least 2.0 credits at the 3000 level or above. The curriculum also includes biology requirements through BIOL 1020H and 2260H, providing essential life science knowledge relevant to agriculture and ecosystems. Environmental and Resource Studies is covered through 2.0 credits, while Geography contributes 1.5 credits, ensuring students gain a strong understanding of environmental systems, land use, and spatial analysis. Advanced learning is further supported by upper-level ERSC and GEOG electives. In addition, students must meet broader university requirements, including 0.5 credit from the Approved Indigenous Course List, and complete 14.0 science credits overall with a recommended 1.0 credit in mathematics (MATH 1051H and 1052H). This structure ensures graduates are well-prepared with scientific, environmental, and practical skills for careers in sustainable agriculture and food systems.
