COURSE CURRICULUM

The single-major Honours Software Engineering program at Trent University requires the completion of 20.0 total credits, with 16.0 credits dedicated to core program requirements that combine technical depth with interdisciplinary learning. A significant portion includes 8.5 COIS credits covering foundational and advanced topics such as programming, systems, software design, and development through courses like COIS 1010H, 1020H, 1400H, 2020H, 2040H, 2240H, 2300H, 2430H, 2520H, 3030H, 3040H, 3050H, 3060H, 3065H, 3400H, 4060H, and 4065H. Students must also complete additional specialized COIS credits by selecting courses from areas such as software engineering, advanced systems, and computing applications. Practical experience is supported through a 0.5 co-op credit (COOP 2000H), enhancing workplace readiness. The program includes strong mathematical foundations with 2.0 required MATH credits, including courses such as MATH 1110H, 1350H, 1550H, and 2600H, along with an additional 0.5 MATH credit. To ensure a well-rounded education, students must also complete 1.0 credit in administration, 1.0 credit in arts disciplines such as sociology, economics, or philosophy, and 1.0 credit in science fields like biology, chemistry, or physics. In addition, students are required to fulfill overall university degree requirements, including completing 0.5 credit from the Approved Indigenous Course List, ensuring both technical expertise and broad academic exposure.
