COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Physics (Honours) at Trent University is a 20.0-credit program that integrates advanced mathematics with theoretical and applied physics to study the fundamental principles governing the universe. The program provides rigorous training in both disciplines, preparing students to analyze physical systems using mathematical reasoning and computational methods. Students complete a structured set of 14.0 core credits that include foundational and upper-level mathematics and physics courses. Mathematics requirements include courses such as MATH 1110H or 1111H, MATH 1120H or 1121H, and advanced study in MATH 1350H, 1550H, 2110H, 2120H, 2350H, and 3770H. Physics training includes PHYS 1001H, 1002H, 2130H, 2610H, 2700H, 3200Y, 3610H, 4220H, 4610H, and 4700H. The program also includes integrated courses that bridge both fields, such as MATH-PHYS 2150H, 3130H, 3150H, 3160H, and 4140H, along with computational components like MATH-COIS 3180H and COIS 1020H. Additional electives allow specialization in advanced mathematics or physics topics. Through this curriculum, students develop strong problem-solving, analytical, and computational skills, learning to model complex systems in areas such as quantum mechanics, relativity, and mathematical modelling.
