COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science Honours program in Geography at Trent University is a 20.0-credit degree that focuses on the scientific study of Earth systems, environmental processes, and spatial analysis. Students complete 10.0 Geography (GEOG) credits, starting with foundational courses such as GEOG 1030H and 1040H, which are prerequisites for most advanced geography classes, along with core courses including GEOG 2080H, 2090H, and 3100H. Additional requirements include 1.0 credit from courses such as GEOG 2310H, 2320H, 2330H, 2710H, or 2810H, and 1.0 credit from GEOG 2401H, 2460H, or 2540H, which focus on physical geography and environmental systems. Students must also complete 1.0 credit from Category A (excluding certain advanced courses), 3.0 credits from Category B, and 0.5 credit from Category C, ensuring both breadth and depth in geographic study. An additional 1.0 GEOG credit beyond these categories is also required to complete the specialization. The program maintains academic structure by ensuring that no course can satisfy more than one category requirement, although approved reading courses may be used in some categories. Exemptions from GEOG 2080H are available for students with prior coursework in psychology or mathematics, but do not reduce total credit requirements. In addition to program requirements, students must complete 14.0 science credits including mathematics and an Indigenous course credit.
