COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Honours-level program designed to provide advanced training in computing theory, software development, and mathematical foundations. In the single-major Honours stream, students complete a 20.0-credit degree that combines core computer science (COIS) courses with higher-level specialization and mathematics requirements. The program begins with foundational courses in programming, data structures, and systems, followed by intermediate and advanced study in areas such as algorithms, databases, software engineering, and computing applications. Students then progress into extensive upper-level coursework, including 3000- and 4000-level COIS courses, which allow deeper exploration of specialized topics and prepare them for complex real-world computing challenges. A significant portion of the curriculum is dedicated to advanced study, ensuring strong technical expertise and problem-solving ability. Mathematics courses, including calculus, linear algebra, and probability, provide the analytical and quantitative skills necessary for computing and algorithmic thinking. The program also emphasizes practical experience through projects, coding assignments, and applied learning opportunities that connect theory with practice. Students are expected to meet additional university-wide requirements, including science credits and Indigenous studies components. Graduates are well prepared for careers in software engineering, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, and related technology fields, as well as for graduate-level study in computer science or interdisciplinary computing disciplines.
