COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science Honours program in Biology at Trent University is a 20.0-credit single-major degree that provides an advanced and comprehensive education in the life sciences. Students complete 13.5 core Biology credits beginning with 3.5 foundational BIOL credits from courses such as BIOL 1020H, 1030H, 2000H, 2050H, 2070H, 2260H, and 2600H, which cover essential topics in genetics, ecology, cell biology, and organismal systems. A further 1.5 BIOL, BIOC, or BIOM credits at the 2000 level or higher and 5.0 credits at the 3000 level or beyond allow for deeper specialization in advanced biological fields. Supporting science requirements include 1.0 CHEM credit from CHEM 1000H and 1010H, 1.0 MATH credit from MATH 1051H and 1052H, and an additional 0.5 MATH credit from courses such as MATH 1006H or 1110H. Students also take 0.5 PHYS credit from PHYS 1000H, 1001H, or PHYS-BIOL 1060H, along with 0.5 credit in a humanities subject to broaden interdisciplinary understanding. The program includes restrictions on credit overlap in joint majors and limits experiential learning credits such as research, thesis, or placement courses to a maximum of 3.5 credits. Students must also meet university-wide requirements, including 14.0 science credits and 0.5 credit from the Approved Indigenous Course List, ensuring a strong scientific foundation for careers or graduate study.
