COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science Honours program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Trent University is a 20.0-credit single-major degree that provides advanced training in biology, chemistry, and related quantitative sciences. Students complete 16.0 core science credits, beginning with 2.5 BIOL credits from foundational courses such as BIOL 1020H, 1030H, 2050H, 2070H, and 3080H, which introduce key concepts in cell biology, genetics, and molecular systems. The program also includes 5.0 CHEM credits from core chemistry courses like CHEM 1000H, 1010H, 2100H, 2110H, 2200H, 2300H, 2410H, 2500H, 3310H, and 3320H, covering organic, physical, and analytical chemistry. Students then take 2.0 upper-level BIOL credits from advanced courses such as BIOL 3250H, 3830H, 3840H, and others, along with 1.0 CHEM credit at the 3000 level and 1.0 CHEM credit at the 4000 level for advanced specialization. An additional 3.0 credits at the 3000 level or higher in BIOL and/or CHEM allow deeper study and research-focused learning. Supporting requirements include 1.0 MATH credit from MATH 1110H and 1122H and 0.5 PHYS credit from PHYS 1001H or 1060H. The program also limits thesis or project courses to a maximum of 2.0 credits and requires university-wide completion of 0.5 credit from the Approved Indigenous Course List.
