COURSE CURRICULUM

Nursing (BScN) program at Trent University is an Honours degree consisting of 20.0 credits, with at least 12.0 credits completed in Nursing (NURS). The program integrates classroom learning, laboratory instruction, and extensive clinical practice to prepare students for professional nursing practice in diverse healthcare settings. Students must also complete at least 0.5 elective credit from the Approved Indigenous Course List as part of their degree requirements.In Year 1, students are introduced to nursing through foundational courses including NURS 1000H, 1001H, 1002H, 1020H, and 1550H, along with biology (BIOL 1500H and 1501H), psychology (PSYC 1020H or 1030H), and an elective course. This year focuses on individual health, aging, and the basics of professional nursing practice. In Year 2, students expand their understanding of community and family health through advanced nursing courses such as NURS 2000H, 2001H, 2003H, 2021H, 2031H, and 2550H, plus additional psychology and elective study. Year 3 emphasizes illness, disease processes, and nursing interventions through courses like NURS 3000H to 3550H, with further electives and interdisciplinary learning. In Year 4, students integrate theory and practice through advanced clinical courses, including NURS 4020C and 4021C, along with specialized electives and clinical placements tailored to student interests. The program develops competent, reflective, and practice-ready nurses.
