COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science program in Environmental Chemistry at Trent University is designed to provide students with a strong understanding of chemical processes in natural environments and how these processes influence ecosystems and human health. The program combines core studies in chemistry with environmental science to explore how substances are formed, transformed, and transported through air, water, and soil systems. Students develop a solid foundation in analytical, organic, inorganic, and environmental chemistry while also gaining knowledge of earth systems, biology, and mathematics. Through laboratory work and field-based learning, students learn to apply scientific methods to real environmental challenges such as pollution, climate change, and contaminant monitoring. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on experience, allowing students to use modern instrumentation and analytical techniques to study environmental samples and interpret chemical data. In addition to classroom learning, students are encouraged to take part in experiential opportunities such as research projects and field studies that connect theory with practice. Upper-level courses deepen understanding of environmental chemistry topics and prepare students for more specialized scientific work.
