COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Biology at Trent University is a 15.0-credit single-major General program designed to provide a strong foundation in life sciences along with supporting training in chemistry and mathematics. Students complete 8.5 core Biology credits beginning with 3.5 BIOL credits from foundational courses such as BIOL 1020H, 1030H, 2000H, 2050H, 2070H, 2260H, and 2600H, which introduce key concepts in cell biology, genetics, ecology, and organismal biology. In addition, students take 1.0 BIOL, BIOC, or BIOM credit at the 2000 level or higher and 1.5 credits at the 3000 level or beyond, allowing deeper specialization in advanced biological topics. The program also requires 1.0 CHEM credit from CHEM 1000H and 1010H to provide essential chemical knowledge for biological systems. Mathematical training is included through 1.0 credit from MATH 1051H and 1052H, along with an additional 0.5 MATH credit from courses such as MATH 1006H or 1110H. Students must also meet broader university requirements, including 11.0 science credits and 0.5 credit from the Approved Indigenous Course List. The program includes restrictions on overlapping credits in joint majors and limits the number of experiential learning credits such as thesis or research courses to a maximum of 3.5 credits. Overall, the degree builds a strong interdisciplinary foundation for careers or further study in biological and health sciences.
