COURSE CURRICULUM

The Accounting Specialization within the Bachelor of Business Administration or Business Administration joint-major program at Trent University is designed for students who want to develop advanced knowledge in financial and managerial accounting. This specialization builds on core business studies and prepares students for professional pathways such as becoming a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA). Students complete 5.5 credits with strong academic performance requirements, including a minimum grade of 65% in each course and an overall specialization average of at least 70%. The required 3.0 credits include key accounting and finance courses such as Financial Accounting, Fundamentals of Managerial Accounting, Intermediate Management Accounting, Financial Management, and both levels of Intermediate Financial Accounting. These courses provide a deep understanding of accounting principles, reporting, and financial decision-making. In addition, students complete 2.5 credits from related areas such as Information Systems, Business Law, Investments, Individual and Corporate Taxation, Auditing, Advanced Management Accounting, and Advanced Financial Accounting. Together, these courses ensure students gain both technical accounting expertise and broader business knowledge. The specialization strengthens analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills, preparing graduates for careers in accounting, auditing, taxation, corporate finance, and consulting, as well as for further professional certification and advanced study in the accounting field.
