COURSE CURRICULUM

The Teacher Education Stream at Trent University is a structured four-year pathway designed for students preparing for a future career in teaching at the elementary or secondary level. The stream is completed alongside an Honours degree and helps students develop both academic knowledge and practical understanding of education. In Year 1, students complete 0.5 EDUC credit through EDUC 1050H, which introduces foundational concepts in education. In Year 2, students build on this foundation by completing 1.0 EDUC credit through EDUC 2050H and 2051H, which further develop their understanding of teaching and learning practices. In Year 3, students choose between two pathways: either completing 1.0 EDUC credit through EDUC 3050H and 3051H or participating in a Year Abroad Program, offering an international learning experience and broader educational perspective. In Year 4, students complete their final 1.0 EDUC credit through EDUC 4050H and 4051H, which focus on advanced educational theory and preparation for teacher certification. Throughout the program, students progressively develop the knowledge, skills, and reflective practice needed for entry into consecutive teacher education programs. Overall, the stream provides a clear academic structure that supports students in transitioning from undergraduate studies into professional teaching careers.
