COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts Honours program in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems at Trent University is a comprehensive 20.0-credit degree designed to provide students with an interdisciplinary understanding of agriculture, environment, and food systems. The program requires 13.5 credits in core and related subject areas, combining specialized Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems (SAFS) coursework with supporting disciplines. Students complete 5.0 SAFS credits, including foundational and advanced courses such as SAFS 1001H, 1002H, 2350H, 2500H, 3302H, 3341H, 3370H, 3602H, 4002H, and 4100H. An additional 2.0 SAFS credits must be completed at the 3000 level or higher, along with 2.0 more SAFS credits beyond the listed requirements to deepen subject expertise. The program also integrates interdisciplinary learning through 1.0 credit in Environmental and Resource Studies (ERSC 1010H and 1020H), 1.0 credit in Global Development Studies (GDST 1001H and 1002H), and 1.0 credit in Geography (GEOG 1030H and 1040H). Students further complete 1.5 credits from advanced ERSC or ERST courses to broaden their environmental and analytical knowledge. The program emphasizes cross-disciplinary perspectives while allowing limited overlap in joint-major combinations under specific conditions. In addition to these requirements, students must fulfill overall university degree expectations, including completing 0.5 credit from the Approved Indigenous Course List, ensuring both academic depth and social responsibility.
