COURSE CURRICULUM

Trent University’s Medical Professional Stream (MPS), students must meet several academic and participation requirements each year. They are required to maintain a minimum cumulative average of 77%, successfully complete 9.0 credits by the end of the Winter term of second year (with accommodations considered for students approved for reduced course loads through Student Accessibility Services), and ensure that no more than one course is completed with a grade below 60%. In addition to academic performance, students must demonstrate consistent engagement in both academic and non-academic MPS activities. The program is designed to help students develop the qualities expected by medical school admissions committees, including leadership, communication, professionalism, and community involvement. Students benefit from structured support and resources such as regular meetings with MPS representatives, tailored academic advising sessions, and guidance for building autobiographical sketches for medical school applications. The stream also provides assistance in accessing volunteer and research opportunities, as well as training in CPR and First Aid. Additional enrichment includes workshops focused on teamwork, leadership, and communication skills, along with career exploration activities and admissions test preparation support such as for the MCAT. Students also gain access to speaker series featuring visiting scholars, medical professionals, and Trent alumni. A pathway to certain accredited Caribbean medical schools is also available for eligible students who meet the required prerequisites.
