COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies (Honours) at Trent University is a 20.0-credit program designed to provide students with a deep understanding of media systems, cultural production, and the social impact of communication technologies. The program emphasizes both theoretical analysis and practical media-making skills, allowing students to critically engage with the ways media shapes society, identity, and public discourse. Students begin with foundational courses such as MDST 1010H and 1535H, which introduce key concepts in media theory, culture, and communication. They then build on this foundation through intermediate and advanced coursework, including MDST 2035Y or 2535H and 3535H, which explore more specialized areas of media analysis and production. A required 4000-level MDST course provides an opportunity for advanced study, research, or capstone-style engagement with complex media topics. The program also includes additional Media Studies credits that allow students to tailor their degree based on individual interests, such as digital media, cultural studies, or media production practices.
