COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Human Rights & Global Justice (Honours) at Trent University is a 20.0-credit interdisciplinary program designed to prepare students to critically examine issues of human rights, inequality, and global justice. The program develops strong analytical, research, and communication skills through the study of law, politics, ethics, and social change. Students are required to complete 10.0 credits in Human Rights and Interdisciplinary (HURI) studies, beginning with foundational courses such as HURI 1001H and 1002H, and progressing to advanced and capstone-level learning including HURI 4001H. These courses build an understanding of human rights frameworks, global justice systems, and real-world applications of advocacy and policy analysis. In addition, students complete a range of elective credits drawn from approved categories, including 3000- and 4000-level courses that allow for specialization in advanced topics. The program also requires a 0.5-credit course from designated interdisciplinary options such as GDST, GESO, or Political Studies, helping students broaden their perspective on global development and governance issues. The structure emphasizes depth and flexibility while ensuring students engage with both theory and applied learning. In addition to major requirements, students must fulfill university-wide degree requirements, including completion of an Approved Indigenous Course credit, ensuring a well-rounded academic foundation for careers in law, advocacy, international organizations, and public policy.
